Individual Therapy
In individual counseling or therapy, you meet one-on-one with the therapist. Sessions usually last for about fifty-minutes. Depending on your unique needs, you and the therapist may meet for only a few sessions or therapy sessions may continue for much longer.
Clients seek individual therapy for a variety of reasons. Common issues include: general anxiety and stress, difficult childhood and family experiences (past and present), relationship struggles, depression, and eating and body image issues. Clients also work toward achieving personal growth. The approach to therapy varies from client-to-client. Some clients may require a great deal of initial work exploring past experiences, and others may require a therapy approach that focuses on current experiences.
In individual therapy, I hope to provide a supportive environment in which my clients are able to work toward their personal goals.

Group Therapy
In group therapy or counseling, approximately 5-8 clients meet face-to-face with the therapist. In group therapy, you become aware that you are not alone. Others are experiencing challenges and issues than you can relate to.
Group therapy provides an opportunity for you to learn from the experiences of others with similar problems. Group members are encouraged to give feedback to each other. This includes expressing your own feelings about what someone says or does. When clients come into a group and interact with other group members, they usually recreate those difficulties that brought them to group therapy in the first place. With the facilitation of the group therapist, the group is able to give support, offer alternatives, and comfort members in such a way that these difficulties are resolved and alternative behaviors are learned.
In group therapy, I work to facilitate a safe environment in which group members establish a level of trust that allows them to talk personally and honestly. Keep in mind that group members make a commitment to the group and are instructed that the content of the group sessions are confidential. It is not appropriate for group members to disclose events of the group to an outside person.

Couples Therapy
In couples therapy or counseling, the therapist will meet face-to-face with you and your partner. Couples therapy focuses on the challenges/issues existing in the relationship between two people that are intimately involved.
It is important to keep in mind that relationship challenges/issues always involve individual symptoms, as well as, relationship conflicts. Therefore, therapy will involve individual/personal growth, as well as, learning different ways of interacting within the relationship. Couples therapy includes learning how to communicate more effectively, and how to listen more closely. At times, the couples counseling process is very similar to individual therapy, sometimes it is educational, and sometimes it is live mediation. The combination of the three components makes it effective.
As a couples therapist, I will assist you and your partner in identifying issues that maintain conflict within your relationship. You will be supported in the decision making process of determining what changes are needed in the relationship and in the behavior of each partner to bring about mutual satisfaction in the relationship.

Family Life Education
Family life education is an educational approach to strengthening and supporting the individual and his or her family life. In family life education sessions, the therapists may meet with the individual, a couple, or a group. Family life education sessions involving groups can be provided in settings such as schools, churches, Family life education emphasizes the development of skills and knowledge that help people develop into healthy adults, work together in close relationships, and bring out the best in others.
